More on Search

So the week with Viewzi on the blog has ended pretty mixed. While I like the styling of it there were some issues with searches not returning accurate (or any) results so I’ve replaced it with Lijit. This has support for more search sources and some nice extra features but I’ve also got a couple of issues.

Firstly none of my Flickr content seems to be indexed but I’ve raised this with the support team. I’m also not overly keen on the styling of the search window and performance seems a bit iffy.

Still, I prefer this to the standard WordPress search so I’ll keep this on for a couple of weeks and see how it goes.

This post has been sitting in draft for a couple of weeks now. Lijit is still enabled and the Flickr images are now correctly indexed. All of the content I want to be returned is returning but the overall performance is a bit slow. I’ll keep it enabled for now but the search for a better WordPress search goes on.

  1. sorry that your experience with viewzi was mixed. Let me know if there are some specific features (besides the issues you raise above) that would get you back in the fold.

I will make sure that the items you mention in your post are dealt with.

    All the best,

    bc

  2. Hey there,

I am glad to hear that the Lijit search is properly indexing your Flickr photos. Please let me know if I can help in any way going forward.

    Thank you again,

  3. Lijit is horrible on IE 6. Your feedburner RSS feed in bloglines had missed your posts from the last month at least so I was searching to see if you've changed the feed. Results were not pretty and didn't give me an answer either.

  4. Cheers for the info H. Lijit now uninstalled. I also got an e-mail from a reader saying it broke the site when they used it – back to default WordPress for now.

The feed news is very interesting. I moved from Feedburner to Google owned account in Feedburner (I know what I meant!!!) but still the same feed address and in Google Reader the feed has been working fine. I wonder if it's a feed issue or Bloglines? I do remember reading that some feeds in Bloglines were failing. Time to investigate further.

  5. Feed seems to be working fine if I look at feed alone or in Bloglines or Google reader. The first time I looked in Bloglines it was displaying nothing from this year! I then added the Feedburner feed which displayed all latest content. I then looked at the original feed and it was up to date as well. Methinks a Bloglines issue, but then I would!

Thanks again for the heads up. Now Lijit free.
